Osasuna Calls 22 Players for Season Finale Against Getafe
A goal by forward Gorka Guruzeta led the hosts to victory
Club Atlético Osasuna (10-9-13, 39 points) lost 1-0 to Athletic Club (12-5-15, 41 points) at San Mamés on Tuesday. Athletic forward Gorka Guruzeta scored the only goal, while goalkeeper Unai Simón made two crucial saves against Ante Budimir—including a penalty stop and a header—to secure the win for the hosts.
Athletic Club controlled early play and threatened inside the Osasuna box. In the fifth minute, the referee awarded Athletic a penalty, but reversed the decision after VAR review. Minutes later, Guruzeta capitalized on a loose ball in the box and scored the match’s only goal. Osasuna managed more possession as the half progressed but could not create serious chances against goalkeeper Unai Simón. Osasuna forward Victor Muñoz attempted a shot from the left flank without success. In the 39th minute, Athletic’s Álex Berenguer nearly doubled the lead, but his effort went just wide.
Osasuna had a chance to equalize in the second half when the referee awarded a penalty for a handball by Athletic defender Yeray. Simón saved forward Ante Budimir’s penalty attempt from the spot. Los Rojillos sent multiple crosses into the box in search of a goal. Despite their pressure, Athletic nearly extended their advantage through midfielder Robert Navarro, but defender Valentin Rosier blocked the effort. In the 77th minute, midfielder Aimar crossed to Budimir, whose header was spectacularly saved by Simón. Osasuna continued to push forward late after midfielder Mikel Jaureguizar was sent off with a second yellow card, but the hosts’ defense held firm.
Osasuna returns to El Sadar on Sunday, April 26, to face Sevilla in Week 32 of LaLiga EA Sports. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. local time (5:30 p.m. BST, 12:30 p.m. ET).
Minutes: 99min.
